When a warehouse has repeated picking, storage, integration or billing issues, the natural reaction is to blame the WMS. Sometimes the platform is the issue. Often the platform is simply exposing weak master data.
1. Packaging hierarchy changes the operation
Each, inner, carton and pallet relationships affect receiving, picking, replenishment and charging. If conversions are missing or inconsistent, people compensate manually.
2. Dimensions and weights are not optional detail
They influence storage planning, carrier selection, transport rating, capacity and sometimes automated packaging logic.
3. Product codes need governance
Duplicate identifiers, changing customer SKUs and inconsistent barcode rules can turn otherwise simple integrations into exception-management processes.
4. Ownership matters
Someone needs to own the quality and change process for product data. Without ownership, the warehouse becomes the place where upstream data issues are discovered.
5. Fix the input before adding more automation
Automation makes reliable processes faster. It also makes unreliable data move faster. Clean master data is often a better first investment than another layer of workflow technology.
